Dear Mrs. Petherick,
Thank you for your letter dated 7th August, 1951, reference 54126/8/51, enclosing a copy of Savingram No.858 dated 25th July, 1951 from Hong Kong, regarding outstanding items in the British Military Administration Accounts.
(behind)
In our letter of even date (copied to you) we have asked the Treasury for authority to write-off the three items for which, in the opinion of the Governor, there is no hope of recovery. We will let you know the outcome for notification to Hong Kong.
As regards our claim against the Hong Kong and Whompoa Dock Co., Ltd. (your letter dated 11 th July, 1951 refers), we have already received Treasury authority to write-off the amount outstanding and no further action is necessary.
Would you now please inform Hong Kong that we accept the offer contained in their Savingram No.777 of 9th July, 1951 to pay $611,644.49 in respect of Borneo advances and deposits and should be glad if they would authorize the Crown Agents to make payment to the War Office in the near future.
Mrs. F. Petherick,
Colonial Office,
The Church House,
Great Smith Street, LONDON, S.W.1.
